Our Story

A meeting place of fried & fresh.

Nicole and David Mouton, longtime Portland residents originally from South Louisiana, opened Screen Door Eastside in 2006. What started as one corner restaurant on E Burnside has become a Portland institution — and a second home in the Pearl District.

We pair the warmth and generosity of Southern hospitality with the Pacific Northwest's love of fresh, local, and sustainable ingredients. Our biscuits are scratch-made, our chicken is hand-battered, our cinnamon rolls come out of our own bakery, and every plate is built to be shared.

"They make what is arguably the best fried chicken I've ever had. Super flaky crust with just the right amount of crunch and the chicken is super tender and juicy."
